Lunch Break

School Lunch for September 3rd, 2012

Served on August 16th, 2012 in Yamanashi

This was one of the most American of all the lunches and dinners served at English-language summer camp. It was also one of the most unpopular with the children. But, it surprised me what parts were left untouched. Many kids at my table just skipped the watermelon. In Japan, where fruit is considered dessert, this surprised me. The girl sitting across from me was so dissatisfied with her meal that she just ate the pasta salad piece by piece, drank her soup slowly, and left everything else untouched. I, of course, wolfed down everything. School lunches like these are bad for my waistline!
